Guesthouse Bitra is a family-run guesthouse situated near Selfoss in south Iceland. Its location makes it a perfect stop when exploring southern Iceland as many of the areas major attractions are within a relatively short driving distance.
The building that houses Guesthouse Bitra has an interesting story. The original purpose of the house was to host a women’s prison, although it never came to fruition. The building was used as a juvenile for a long time, then later it served as a guesthouse, For a while, the premises were used as a prison but are now a lovely guesthouse.
The guesthouse has 17 rooms on two floors and some of them have spectacular views over Mount Hekla. There are two bathrooms shared among the guestrooms and free WiFi is available throughout the property.

Some of the well-known natural attractions in close proximity are Gullfoss, Geysir, Þingvellir National Park, Þórsmörk and the Westman Islands.
Directions from Reykjavík / Selfoss
Follow Route 1 east from Reykjavík and drive for 35-40 minutes until you pass the town Selfoss. Continue to follow route 1 for 14 km and you will see a sign from Bitra Guesthouse on your left. The guesthouse is located 400 meters from route 1.
Directions from Egilsstaðir / Höfn / Vík
When coming from the east, from Vík, follow Route 1 west towards Reykjavík until you have passed through both Hvolsvollur and Hella towns. After you have passed Hella town continue on road 1. You will see a sign from Guesthouse Bitra 1 km after you pass the road 30 on your right.
